Working with my hands and watching forms take shape is a magical feeling. Creating objects from my mind and being inspired by subjects I find in nature fills my spirit. Sewing this quilt for my own child was an entirely new experience. I have always made handmade gifts and try to fill them with as much love as I possibly can. Blankets are a joy to make because I envision loved ones wrapped in warmth like a giant hug, keeping them safe and happy! I cannot wait to watch her open this gift. Even if it is a quick look and then on to playing with something else, or running around, I know that eventually she will love it. Babies make me laugh. Every action new and usually unexpected. She is such a treasure and I wanted to make something truly special filled with love.
Thoughts danced around my mind these past weeks hoping to finish this project while simultaneously working on commissions. I am so pleased to say…one more night is expected to finish this piece. The feeling of completing this is very similar to the one I have when I finish a painting. True, paintings take way longer and a lot more mental fortitude, however this project was incredibly challenging. It pushed me to new limits, created amazing challenges for my mind, and brought me so much joy. I had a lot of hiccups and am super grateful for all the help I received among YouTube tutorials and friends’ advice over messages. It almost felt like an old timey sewing circle happened in order to complete this quilt. Do any of you have projects like this, or would you like to share what are you all working on for the holidays in the comments? If you are looking for a unique gift, I have some available on my website!
Thank you for reading this blog post and have a wonderful Wednesday!
